Green Stems Growing in Jelly Beans????

I received a beautiful bouquet of tulips last week and have so enjoyed them...however this week they were started to look a little sad.   Well some fresh water and  fresh cuts would have helped but I thought I these tulips would be so cute in Jelly Beans.  I decided to take this opportunity to show you how this look is achieved.
You will need two vases, one large, one small, and two bags of Jelly Beans... The small vase will need to be able to fit inside the large one.

Now take your flowers...a dozen or so and trim them nicely, with an angle cut on each stem...Measure the higheth of each stem to where you want it to go in the vase.  No more than  2 1/2 times the size of the vase is a good rule...

Now fill the small vase with water and some flower food, if you have some...and grab all the flowers in a bunch and place them in the vase.  Tulips tend to fall their own way so don't worry to much about how they
will droop, this smaller vase will help them to stand upo better. You could rubber band them if they are too droopy.

Now place the smaller vase inside the large vase...

Here  is the fun part...gradually and carefully pour the jelly beans into the larger vase...between the two vases.

You must not get any Jelly Beans in the water...or any water in the Jelly Beans..it makes for a mess..
From the viewer's eye you end up with what looks like "Greens growing in Jelly Beans"!!!
Don't you think it makes such a cute arrangement...perfect for spring!

I added a pretty bow to finish it off and, Wow! This makes me smile when I walk in the door, so fun and cheerful.   I feel like I just received another bouquet!  This can be created with any candy to fit the holiday, and I have seen double vases for sale just for this purpose, but these vases were perfect!

Another super Cute idea...from the Heart...

It's Green to me!

Eating Green vegtables has always been a bit of a challenge for me.  I love green leafy raw lettuce salads.  It's the cooked veges that I have trouble with, brocoli, green beans, asparagas, you know the kind.  decided to give it my all out best effort to try some green vege recipes this year.  And to my surprise I found  a wonderful, recipe for Roasted Califlower. No I'm not color blind,  I know it's not Green, but I thought I could try this because it is definitedly a vege with a GREEN stem, it has vitamins B, C, & K,  loaded with potassium and fiber, and  enzymes that  fight cancer.
The recipe is so easy!.... All you do is... wash up your cauliflower...

Remove the stem...

Cauliflower is very crumbly, but here we want it sliced...

Next drizzle a couple tablespoons of olive oil  on a cookie sheet and sprinkle the cauliflower on top.

Now chop up one or two cloves of garlic and add to the cauliflower.
Sprinkle with salt and another drizzle off olive oil and mix it all up using your hands.
Bake for 25-30 min. at 375* and your will be amazed at how delicious and crunchy it comes out.
Like Chips! Sprinkle on a little Parmeasan Cheese and serve.

Well it's green to me,  very good for you and quite delicious....and a big step in the right direction.  Give it a try I think you'll like this  Green recipe "from the Heart!".

Green Eggs for Easter!

I thought Spring arrived yesterday but today I awoke to winter.... or lets call a spring storm arrived.
Sooooo... I decided to stay home and get started on my  Sugar Easter Eggs.  They are the Old Fashioned Sugar eggs with the picture window and a scene inside.

I loved these as a kid and I enjoy making them every few years for my Easter Table...

I tossed mine out  last year because they do get old and break down and then it's time to make new ones...So here is the recipe to begin with
4 cups of sugar
3 T. Water ( food coloring in water) optional...I went with Green since I'm going green this March.
Mix until mixture becomes packable, no lumps like a sand castle mixture. Add the water slowly as you do not want the sugar to wet or you will have collapsing eggs, and we certainly don't want that.

Then you will need an Easter Egg Mold...I bought this years ago at Michaels.

Fill each of the two...top and bottom eggs...the bottom has a little flat area.
gradually pack the sugar into the mold and pack with a spoon or your hand...

Now gently scoop out the center forming a bowl in the egg...leaving 1/4-1/2 inch on sides.

and then....very very gently flip the eggs over (like you do a cake) onto a flat surface..cookie sheet or card board...I used a magazine, not the best because it was a little flimsy.

And lastly....cut the tip off of both eggs to create the window... V  e  r  y carefully!!!

And Now leave them alone for a week or two...do not touch them...I repeat DO NOT TOUCH THEM.
They will dry and harden and then we will frost and decorate them.  If you do by chance have an egg that collapses just throw the sugar back in and repack and try again.  Sometimes it takes a couple of tries but you'll get it. Check back with me in a few weeks for the rest of the story....  They are so fun and cute to make I hope you'll give it a try...
Oh Yea and be on the look out for  a cute mini chick or a cross or something to go in the window?

Green Heals Spring Fever!

Spring Fever has hit hard at my house!  Snow is almost melted, bulbs are starting to sprout and the weather is gorgeous...and.... it happens to be Spring Break. Sure enough.. I have come down with the  fever.    One way I know to cure that fever is by changing up my home decor with some spring accessories.  I have a nice pot of silk geramiums in my entry that I put there after Christmas and they went nicely with my Valentines decorations... but it's looking pretty tired about now.

It just needs a little lift and  some TLC...so I picked up a few springy floral bunches to add.
Daisies, and grasses. I have so much red in my home that I like to use the red geraniums all year if I can.

First I pulled the geraniums out, they were just pushed into the pot no foam or anything...

And then I gave the geraniums a good shake and dusting...and then put them back in one on top of the other.

Next I added some floral grasses, but first I pulled them apart and placed them on top of the geraniums.

Then I entertwined the geraniums a little with the grasses, just wrapping them around each other to blend them together.

And now for the daises, I also pulled them apart and placed one on top of the other again pushing them into the pot.

I entertwined these a little bit too and then added the last  bit of plain grasses on top of the daises.

And wow...my fever is starting to lift...

It's a quick free form way of updating any tired arrangement, bring spring in easily by adding light white colors of floral and grasses.  I'll add a few tulips in a couple of weeks too, when it's starting to feel more like Easter is approaching

I also added a few accessories, my bench and Humel  figurine that are very springy too.  My entry is feeling really freshened up.  Maybe now I can make it through the next few weeks of winter, before spring actually arrives.  Bringing that green in really heals Spring Fever.

Bring that Green, outside in!

Wow have your noticed some of the beautiful shades of green showing up in home decor this year.  Sagey to lime to kaki to graygreen to painted turtle to mesa verde and on and on and on.  Green seems to be very popular especially in a muted grey tone because it is so calming and very nuetral.  For any of you that are afraid of adding color to your home these shades of green are a great place to start.  check out this awesome kitchen...

Very calming, subtle and elegant.

This green really adds warmth and depth to a very nuetral kitchen...

And who couldn't feel comfortable here...

Or here...

Now this shade of green definitely isn't for everyone..but super cute.

And for Baby oh so sweet...

What a wonderful shade for a game room or family room.

So classy in a dining room....

and the real story here is whats outside those windows..........Itsn't it interesting that we can't get enough of that Gorgeous Green when it outdoors...

So if you happen to be looking for a new shade to paint your kitchen, bathroom or bedroom maybe a shade of green would be a good choice for you...it offers so much in elegance, softness, and comfort

It seems to be a great backdrop for other colors...and thats what we see outdoors, thats why we want to "bring the outside in" as they say.
